'Maizing Grace- Grow A Row Project

Salem's Grow a Row project kicked off on Father's Day, June 19th. This is the sixth year Salem has participated in the Foods Resource Bank project. The Foods Resource Bank provides funding for sustainable agricultural projects around the world to provide families the dignity and security of raising their own food. Local Growing Projects in the U.S. are the way money is raised for FRB - successful agriculture supporting developing agriculture.

Salem’s ‘Maizing Grace growing project for the Foods Resource Bank is now complete for 2011. A crop was not planted in the 25 acre field that was rented due to this year’s flooding, but a federal crop insurance claim was received for our prevented planting. The donations from Salem members and the incredible donations from the 2011 Vacation Bible School to Grow a Row totaled $4,214.29. With the federal crop insurance income and limited expenses for this very strange crop year, Salem was able to donate $6,794.51 to the Foods Resource Bank. The donation has been designated to Armenia for small-scale crop and livestock production in remote villages and for supplemental food for children’s institutions in those areas. Thank you, Salem, for your continued support of this global mission project. Hopes are high for a much better situation for the 2012 ‘Maizing Grace growing project!!
