The Chronicles of Narnia. Written by C.S. Lewis over fifty years ago this edition presents all seven books unabridged in one volume. The books are presented in Lewis' prefered order with the origional illustrations. Narnia is deceptively simple but speaks dirctly to the eternal truth of Jesus Christ. Make this your children's or grandchildren's bed time story.

The Message: The Bible in Contemporary Language.
If you are looking for a very readable Bible this new modern language translation by Eugene Peterson is the one. Many folks have found this Bible easy, engaging and open.

Mere Christianity. Also by C.S. Lewis. This little book is always on your pastor's desk or close by on my bookshelf. Lewis has a wonderful way of explaining our faith and opening our lives to the reality we always felt but cannot seem to put into words. This book is easy to read, however because I agree with so much of his thoughts, I find myself regularly stopping to ponder and reflect. This book is so well written that all of us can grasp the theological ideas Lewis offers. A good book with which to go deeper in your faith.

The New Interpreter's Study Bible. If you are looking for the very best scholarship, one of the most accurate word for word translations, with a massive amount of study help, then this is the Bible for you. Rev. Weesner highly recommeneds this Bible for serious students or casual readers who want profound and thoughtful commentary along with a solid translation. If you want to know more this is a good place to start. The NRSV is the translation we use as our primary translation here at Salem UMC.
